Our Calling
“Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.” Psalms 98:4
Music plays an important part of any worship service and the same is true of Yarnell Community Presbyterian Church. Music, in any form, is another part of the worship as is Lectionary readings or Prayers of Gratitude. It is an opportunity for those so inclined to present their gifts and talents unto the Lord who gave such gifts. Musical talents, as all talents given by God, are to be used in His Praise and Worship.
Our church is very fortunate to have a number of musicians attending church who bless the services with “joyful song and praise.”
Who We Are and What We Do
The choir is under the direction of Paul Jones.
Paul leads the congregation in song and hymns while a very talented Sharon Ball accompanies on piano and organ. Sharon’s moving preludes and offertories often leave the congregation wanting more of her musical talents.
Sharon also accompanies our Violinist on the normally, 4th Sunday of the month known dearly as Violin Sunday. Trish Edwards present her musical talents throughout the worship service.
Praise Band, known as PBJ (Praise Band for Jesus) plays at 10:15 am prior to the 10:30 am worship service. This music uplifts and provides the smooth transition from the congregation’s fellowship activities to getting settled in for the worship service.
A good number of years ago our former Choir Director, Maury Davis, started what he called the “Community Cantata”; this tradition continues today. This Cantata is open to any and all in our community, regardless of church affiliation or not, with the evening presentation the highlight of the Christmas Season ‘up on the hill.” The Fellowship that follows lasts well into the night as spirits are lifted and the camaraderie among the community shares the love of Christ and the season.
During the choir’s summer hiatus, special music fills the service with solos, duets, trios or any combination of ensembles as the talented musicians offer their individual talents to the Lord. The voluntary summer calendar of music is always quickly filled and adds so much to the worship services.
Praise Band rehearsals are normally on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm followed by Choir practice at 7pm.
Cantata rehearsals normally begin in September at 6 pm until 7pm. PBJ and Choir rehearsals follow the Cantata rehearsals during those months.
Special Music Summer calendar opens in June and continues until the choir is ready in the Fall, usually around the second week of September.
